What will you see near Katskhi Pillar

This rocky mass is the product of tectonic shifts, producing a surface area of about 150 meters. The pillar tapers towards its base, making for an arduous climb - however, the common people are forbidden to do that. The hermit monk who lives on the top usually meets the visitors on the ground.

The visitors on the ground can see the 6th-century Bolnisi cross carved into the pillar’s base, and on the pillar’s western side, there is another church that is open to visitors. There is also a wine cellar containing eight Qvevris.
