MUSIC DANCE CHURCHES

Every Georgian child learns traditional dance and song at school, and the children are as enthusiastic as the adults. Few of the worlds male dance steps are as fierce and energetic as the men's or as sublime as the woman's, who seem to glide across the floor as if they were floating on air. The costumes are as exquisite and the dance and song, and performances are throughout the year all over the country.

Our Georgian State Dance Company tours the world for most of the year and caries a star status. Vigorous leaping male dancers, clashing swords, flying sparks, daggers quivering in the floor, combine with graceful, gliding female figures in elegant medieval gowns. Add to these exquisitely fashioned costumes from our mountains and valleys, wild drumming, pipe and accordion - and you have a spectacle guaranteed to be unforgettable.

The Tbilisi Ballet has recently undergone a major refurbishment - thanks to the return and inspiration of Nino Ananiashvili, formerly Principal Ballerina at the Bolshoi in Moscow. Performances are now of the highest quality and continue the tradition of dance forged by the former Georgian dancers like George Balanchine.
